Two-time Academy Award nominee Samantha Morton was the director’s first choice for the AI assistant, Samantha’s voice in Her. But first choices can also go wrong at times. The director wasn’t entirely satisfied with Morton’s voice. He said, “When we started editing, we realized that what the character/movie needed was different from what Samantha and I had created together.” Scarlett Johanson then replaced Morton.
Paddington, the jolly-good talking bear, was originally going to be voiced by Colin Firth. Before shooting began, there was a realization that Firth’s voice didn’t fit well with the bear’s cuddly personality. After being replaced by Ben Whishaw, Firth claimed, “it’s been bittersweet to see this delightful creature take shape and come to the sad realization that he simply doesn’t have my voice.”
The mystery movie, The Lovely Bones centered around a family looking for their missing daughter. The stressed father’s role was supposed to be played by Ryan Gosling, but that never came to be. Without consulting the director, Gosling put on a few extra pounds to make his “stressed” character look more realistic. The director simply disagreed and fired Gosling from the movie. Mark Wahlberg then played his part.
