“We don’t want anyone to think we met and it’s been easy, because if that’s someone’s expectation of a relationship and certainly a marriage, it’s a bad expectation to have,” Shepard said of his time with Bell during an interview on Sunday Today With Willie Geist.

Marriage is based on partnership and requires reciprocity from both sides. Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell have set a precedent for other couples who know relationships are not perfect.

In the past, the celebrity couple explained that their relationship didn’t start from love at first sight. The pair didn’t shy away from admitting “at each other’s throats,” but it is their understanding of each other that makes the relationship work so well. “This isn’t a special fairy tale,” Kristen said in an interview with Parade for the magazine’s March 2019 cover story, before Dax added, “This is two people who worked really hard, and it’s attainable for you if you work really hard in your marriage too.”

How pandemic affected their relationship?

The pandemic has taken a toll on the A-list couple’s life too. Bell also opened up about going to couple’s therapy at the start of the pandemic last year. Shepard came forward about his relapse following 16 years of sobriety. “The thing that I love most about Dax is that he was able to tell me and tell us and say, ‘We need a different plan,'” she told Ellen DeGeneres in October. “We have a plan — if he has to take medication for any reason, I have to administer it. But he was like, ‘We need a stronger plan.’ . . . He’s addicted to evolving. He was like, ‘I don’t want to risk this family and I did, so let’s put new things in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again.’ We’re going back to therapy. I love that he’s addicted to growth. I will continue to stand by him because he’s very, very worth it.”

The couple tied the knot in 2013. They share two beautiful children, 7-year-old Lincoln and 6-year-old Delta. They surely are very cool parents.
