Owning a pet is a big responsibility. That’s why people adopt pets before deciding to have children because it can act as a test run for them. For a pet, you are their whole life. That’s why it’s baffling to see people leave their pets at the shelter after keeping them for years. Sometimes it’s not even the family’s fault. However, regardless of the reason, the pets can be immensely hurt by their owners leaving them. In the movie Hachiko, Richard Geare passes away, and his dog Hachiko waits for him at the train station every day. When Hachi felt abandoned, the hurt was clear from its actions. Loyalty shines above other emotions for all pet dogs.
The dog in the picture above is Stormy the Pitbull. The stereotype with Pitbulls is that they are very vicious. However, a lot of the perceived friendliness or viciousness comes from how you bring up your dog. If you raise the dog in a hostile environment, it will act as such. Stormy, however, was raised in a friendly atmosphere and around people who loved him. However, this didn’t stop them from leaving him at the shelter after two years. Dogs have emotions similar to humans, and feelings of abandonment can be experienced by them too.
Stormy loves car rides. However, after his last car ride with his previous owners, he might not be very trusting of cars. His owners became pregnant with their fifth child, and you’d think they would love to have their loyal companion along for the ride. However, this was not the case. Stormy’s owners probably figured that having five children and a pitbull would be too much, so they decided to offload him. It’s a shame for Stormy because he had no idea what was happening until his owners left him at the shelter, and it was clear that they weren’t coming back. Dogs do not have an understanding of complex family decisions. This is why Stormy will always feel like the family didn’t love him anymore.
It could’ve been worse for Stormy. They could’ve abandoned him in a dangerous place. However, his former family dumped the loyal pit bull at a shelter. It was Brooklyn’s busiest one too. Imagine his confusion when he saw his family leaving. He probably figured they would come back like they always do. However, this was not going to be one of those times. Stormy was terrified at the shelter initially. This is understandable since he was in a new environment that had a bunch of other dogs. He probably had a tough time coming to terms with the fact that his family wasn’t coming back.
