Jenna Bush Hager, 39, has recently shared the story of her hilarious first date ever. She disclosed the story to Today’s co-host Hoda Kotb on Monday’s show.
While looking back at the eventful first date with her husband Henry Hager, the Today’s co-host admitted that it was her “worst date ever.” Jenna talked about the experience in her Today’s Monday show segment in honor of Single’s Appreciation Day.
“My worst first date involved the Secret Service, let’s just leave it at that,’ Bush mentioned, laughing. “It was with Henry and his car ran out of gas and went backwards and hit the Secret Service.”
Jenna said they were in Arlington, Virginia, where this disastrous date took place. The TV presenter explained how her now-husband Henry tried to stop for gas when their car accidentally began to roll backward down a hill.
“He started to go up the hill and then boop, crash,” the former first daughter said with a laugh. She further explained that the car crashed right into the Secret Service vehicle, which was following them. Jenna revealed, “I was laughing but he was horrified.”
Jenna first met Henry when he was working on George W. Bush’s presidential re-election campaign in 2004. The duo straight away became friends.
Jenna said after only three months of dating, she was so in love with Henry that she asked him to marry her. But he turned down the proposal saying she is too young.
Henry proposed to Jenna in 2007 and asked President Bush’s permission to marry his daughter.
The couple ended up marrying each other in May 2008.
The couple now shares three children, a seven-year-old daughter, Mila, a five-year-old daughter, Poppy, and a one-year-old son, Hal.
