Family members, lawmakers, and Capitol Police officers gathered in the Rotunda to pay homage. Officer Sicknick is the fifth person to lie in honor at the Capitol Rotunda. President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris also traveled to the Capitol to pay their respects to the slain Capitol Police officer. The ceremony took place a week before the Senate impeachment trial to rule about Trump’s role in the violent riots. The violence inflicted by the rioters still shakes the whole nation.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke about the deep scars left by the assault.

“Let us all be a comfort to those who continue to recover from injuries, seen and unseen, from the attack on Jan. 6,” Schumer said.

He added Sicknick was the “quiet rock” of his unit who was “caught at the wrong place at the wrong time, on a day when peace was shattered.”

Who was Brian D. Sicknick?

Sicknick was born and bred in South River, New Jersey. He graduated from high school in 1997 and later enlisted in the National Guard. The Guard deployed him to Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan. He joined the USCP in 2008.

‘Brian is a hero’ his brother said. Sicknick’s family was “very proud” of his service to his country, Ken Sicknick said.

“Brian is a hero, and that is what we would like people to remember,” he remarked.

Sicknick “wanted to be a police officer his entire life” and joined the New Jersey National Guard in his pursuit of that goal, Ken Sicknick said.
